Oregon Civics Conference

The annual event draws teachers, curriculum specialists and administrators from across Oregon to the State Capitol for an insider’s view of Oregon government. Participants attend workshops led by representatives from all three branches of government and receive resources, formal training and classroom coaching. Click here to learn more.

 

Summer Institute

Summer Institute is a four-day professional development opportunity for social studies educators. It combines content with strategies, camaraderie with grade-level breakouts. Teachers leave with increased knowledge, proven classroom strategies, and a great new network to tap. Mock Trial Workshop for Middle School Teachers
Classroom Law Project presents a Mock Trial Workshop for Middle School Teachers in March at West Sylvan Middle School in Portland. Click here to learn more and register.

We the People State Competition Observation Workshop (Grades 9-12)
This workshop invites teachers to observe students compete in the state finals of the We the People competition, then participate in an interactive session with other teachers to review, debrief, dissect, and learn from what was seen.

Project Citizen Workshops (Grades 5-12)
Project Citizen is an interdisciplinary curriculum for upper elementary, middle and high school students designed to teach responsible participation in local and state government. Students work cooperatively to identify a public policy problem in their community, evaluate possible solutions, and develop an action plan for local government leaders to use in address the problem. The work culminates with a class portfolio and mock public hearing that can be part of the Oregon Project Citizen Showcase.

We the People Coaches’ Workshop
Review the state hearing questions with Hon. Susan Leeson, co-author of the newly released and highly acclaimed We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution high school textbook.

All teachers, teacher-coaches, attorney-coaches, and other colleagues working with students as they prepare for simulated congressional hearings, both competitive and non-competitive, should attend.

This workshop is held annually in mid-October.  Prior to the workshop, more detailed information will be posted on the main page.

 

Private Consultations

CLP staff provide consultation and assistance to educators, attorneys and others who wish to create lessons and curriculum, ranging from civics for kindergartners to constitutional studies for advanced placement students in high school. All programs are tailored to fit individual needs.
